The August 2017 meeting of NWA ASCE will begin at noon, Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at MarketPlace Grill in Springdale. Following the review of old business and introduction of new Branch business in accordance with our bylaws, Mark Peterson, PE, Tensar will present Design Methodologies for Use in Roadway Design. A 0.5 hr PDH certificate will be available for members in attendance.

Lunch Information

Lunch will be a prix fixe menu, with entree options of Prima Chicken Pasta (asiago cheese sauce) or Jambalaya Pasta, salad, and beverages. UPDATE: Tensar has generously sponsored this lunch. Members will not be charged if eating from the prix fixe menu. Thanks to Tensar for their sponsorship!

We are wrapping up our trial year of meetings in different locations in Northwest Arkansas. This effort has been focused on driving turnout and interest in Branch events, while ensuring the shortest commute, quality lunch food & service, and ease of access. Comment cards will be placed on the tables at the August, November, and December meetings. We appreciate your feedback.

Presenter Bio

Mark Peterson, PE received his Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University. Since earning his degree he has 20 years of experience in diversified civil engineering, involving both design and construction management. He has worked in both the public and private sectors.  He also has extensive knowledge of construction techniques stemming from his ownership of WMP Construction.

September

Our September meeting will be held in conjunction with the UA Student Chapter. The Fall Social has traditionally been an opportunity to welcome UA students back to campus for the fall semester, and allow networking in a more casual setting. Details to follow.

October

The Northwest Branch will not hold an October meeting, in order to encourage attendance at the Section Conference in Jacksonville on October 5-6. The two-day conference will feature Scott Bennett, PE, Director of Highways at the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDot, formerly AHTD) as keynote speaker. 15 PDHs will be available across a wide range of engineering topics. Sponsorships and registration are now available online.

November

The November Meeting of ASCE NWA will be held at MarketPlace Grill in Springdale. All officer nominations for Secretary are due to nwasecy@arasce.org by 12:00 noon, November 1. The Northwest Branch Board is currently working to secure a speaker for this lunch. Interested speakers should submit essential topic/presenter bio information to ascenwa@gmail.com.

December

End of year annual report will be presented by Treasurer Zach Morehart, EI, A.M.ASCE. The Northwest Branch Board is currently working to secure a speaker for this lunch. Interested speakers should submit essential topic/presenter bio information to ascenwa@gmail.com.

The Northwest Branch Board is aware of some members having issues with receiving email communications. We are considering alternatives for different content delivery methods, but many issues can be resolved by ensuring your email address is current with the parent organization at http://www.asce.org/. Given a grace period, updates to the parent organization database are pushed to our communications database. Please contact us at ascenwa@gmail.com if you have issues receiving emails, and check our website, arasce.org, for the latest event information.


Officer Nominations

In accordance with the Branch bylaws, an election will be held in December for the position of Secretary of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Northwest Arkansas Branch. Members with interest in the position should email ascenwa@gmail.com for more information. Nominations need to be received by the November meeting. Members in good standing (i.e., membership dues paid) may nominate any other member, or can self-nominate.
